"I won first place in a school district-wide poetry contest..."

Hi Hayli, why is your name spelled that way?
Hayli: I honestly don’t know. Everyone else spells it “Haylie” or "Hayley" or "Haylee." Mom was a 1970’s hippie flower child. Her creativity has definitely been passed down to me in my love of writing, art and music.

Are you a full-time essay writer?
Hayli: At the moment, I am a part-time freelance writer working full time in advertising sales. I worked five years as a reporter at bi-weekly, weekly, semi-daily and daily newspapers. I have also done some public relations writing.

How did you become interested in academic research and writing?
Hayli: I was typing on a computer before I was riding a bike. My parents had a really, really old-school Apple Macintosh computer that someone gave them. I remember using it to type up a story about animals. I still swear by Macintosh computers to this day. When I was five or six, I hand-made a book called Bat Boy, as in the son of Batman. My first real success came in fourth grade, when I won first place in a school district-wide poetry contest and got to shake some author's hand. I think his name was Bill Brown. I don’t remember what my poems were about, but mom loved them so they must have been amazing.

What do you enjoy writing about?
Hayli: Well, after two years as a crime and courts reporter, I am still fascinated by that line of writing. However, it takes its toll on you after a while, so for now I enjoy writing about lighter stuff – English and American literature and so on.

What do you do in your spare time?
Hayli: I am a mom to my 11-month-old son and that pretty much takes up all my spare time. My husband and I also enjoy watching movies and playing Scrabble or cards after little man’s bedtime.

What is your educational background?
Hayli: I got my bachelor’s degree in communications/media writing from Lee University, a medium-sized liberal arts university in east Tennessee. I am considering returning to school for my master’s in library science, but I don’t have time right now!

Why did you want to write for Custom Papers?
Hayli: I remember how time-crunched college students can be. I went to school full-time while working as editor of the school newspaper to pay the college bill and working full time as a general reporter at the weekly community newspaper to pay the living expenses. It was extremely stressful and I want to help others in any way I can to avoid that situation. Looking back, I wish I had slowed down and enjoyed college more, so I would like to help others accomplish that. I also enjoy the extra cash, and I like the concept of a company that really cares enough to try hard to get it right every time. I also see this as a possible way to strike a better balance between school, work and family, allowing me to earn my master’s degree. I’ll still be really stressed and time-crunched trying to juggle all those demanding tasks, but maybe I can hire someone at Custom Papers to help with the school load.

What is your favorite thing about writing for Custom Papers?
Hayli: I enjoy the chance to use my reporting skills again. It’s all about research. Writing about topics I am unfamiliar with keeps my skills sharp. I once volunteered to report on high school football without even realizing what a first down was (I got a quick education from a guy friend before hitting the field). I just love a challenge like that! It’s an opportunity to broaden my horizons!

Thank you for your time!
Hayli: You are most welcome. Thanks for the opportunity!
